Shape Dictates Your Perfect Skirt

There’s no major, tough-to-wear skirt trend this fall, just lots of flattering choices. It might be really hard to decide on which skirt to use: which looks best and which is more comfortable. Good news is, you can have both qualities in one if you know how to pick the best one for you.

Hold a towel at waist height in a mirror and move it up and down to find your best skirt length. Here’s a rule of thumb for you to follow: If you’re a plus-size, hiding your figure behind yards of shapeless fabric adds pounds to your look. A shorter, tailored skirt and slightly more fitted jacket are sleeker- and more confident.

If you’re pear-shaped, long, tapered-at-the-hem skirts will only make your hips look fuller. Instead, try a shape-balancing, slightly A-line style. Flattery bonus: a longer, light-colored jacket and shirt will draw attention up and away from hips.

Trends to try: chiffon skirts where the light fabric makes even full styles skim over curvy bodies and fitted skirts for leggy girls, knee-length’s okay. If you’re petite, go a little shorter. A good rule to dress by: long skirts call for higher heels, short skirts for more modest ones.
